word clouds
Holden's narrative voice is one of the most recognizable in all literature, known for his sarcastic tone, vulgar vocabulary, and thought-provoking tangents. The first person reflexive stream-of-consciousness allows the reader to see deeper into Holden's thoughts and emotions. A word cloud can be used to demonstrate the uniqueness of Holden's narrative voice but also serve as a tool for analysis of Holden's thoughts and motivations. Negative terms - hate, lousy, phony - are prominent, which illuminates the downcast and crestfallen attitude and mindset of our protagonist. These word clouds are utilized to demonstrate how significant vocabulary and narrative voice are in literature for character and narrative analyses.
